Introducing the Zagreb Chess Pieces, often referred to as the Zagreb 1959 Series due to their association with the world championship tournament held in Zagreb, Croatia, in 1959. This unique design stands apart from other Staunton chess pieces, notably featuring the top portion of the three main pieces—the king, queen, and bishop—graciously embracing the opposition colour. The knight, a centrepiece of detail, is strikingly carved with strokes across its vertebrae and seems to bow in a graceful manner. This particular piece carries a design reminiscent of other Russian chess piece styles. These carefully handcrafted pieces are the work of skilled artisans based in Amritsar, India, and each piece is meticulously carved from blocks of specified wood to embody the intricacies and designs of its unique role.

These chess pieces are named after a gentleman, Howard Staunton who put forward a design of chess pieces made with precision and weight to prevent them toppling over. Staunton chess pieces are all manufactured by skilled craftsmen in Amritsar, India.

This is the official Chessgammon store, we are also present on eBay, Amazon and ETSY. However purchasing from the incorrect listing will mean you may be purchasing from a 3rd party dropshipper. This makes it incredibly difficult for you to arrange replacements/ complain about any potential damages.
