The Reykjavik Staunton Chess Series, also known as the Bobby Fischer, Jacob Knight, or Jacques Staunton Series, boasts various names depending on the chess store you visit. The term “Reykjavik series” is often associated with this particular set due to the infamous 1972 Iceland chess tournament between Bobby Fischer and Boris Spassky, where Fischer emerged victorious, creating one of the most memorable finals in history. The Jacques Staunton name is renowned for these pieces, as Jacques of London originally introduced them. Today, these Staunton chess pieces are reproductions of the classic design and are meticulously crafted by highly skilled artisans in Amritsar, India. Each piece is carved from solid wood blocks and heavily weighted for a comfortable and stable gaming experience. Additionally, all pieces are lined with soft green felt to protect your chess board. The wooden chess board features inlaid squares, with darker squares made from Mahogany and lighter squares constructed from Maple, creating a beautiful backdrop for your chess pieces. Made in Spain, this high-quality board ensures years of use. Also included is a beautifully veneered mahogany chess piece storage box, large enough to accommodate pieces ranging from 3 inches to 4 inches. Padded and coated with black velvet felt, the storage box provides added protection for your cherished chess pieces.
